I’m back from a long road trip and here with this weekend’s Rainbow Snippet from One. Hope your January was peaceful and productive. 

 

Lana frowned. “I know I have fender covers, but I can’t remember where I put them.” She walked to the far end of the garage and rummaged through the wall cabinets. Mac studied the schematic in the manual and the engine matching up the images in the book with the engine in front of her. The opening riff of one of her favorite dance tunes reverberated through the garage. Lana returned with the fender covers. Mac smiled at her. “I like your music.”

Lana grinned. “It reminds me of college and graduate school.”

Mac laughed. “It reminds me of college girls.”

Lana raised an eyebrow. She placed the fender cover over the right side of the car and then the left. She turned to face Mac and rested her hand on her hip. “Any particular girl?”

“Nah.” Mac’s face grew warm. “No one special.” No one like you.

Rainbow Snippet Dominque

In the run up to the end of the year I will leave you with a snippet from my short story collection Dominque and Other Stories. I’m taking some time off to travel and spend with family and friends. Wishing all of you a healthy and happy winter holiday and new year. 

From Virginia:

 Virginia stopped pacing and stepped close enough that Nicole could feel the heat of her body in the chilly office. Her eyes had the same intensity Nicole had seen in them right before she sprang off her starting block and plunged into the pool. The same intensity she had longed to be subject to. Nicole trembled. She clenched the edge of the desk to keep herself from reaching out to touch Virginia. If she were a different woman, she thought, she would take Virginia’s face in her hands and kiss her, letting her lips say all the things she couldn’t say with her voice.

“Nicole.” Her voice was rough—her silken tones stripped bare. And then Virginia’s lips were on her mouth. In that moment, Nicole changed her mind: she didn’t want to be anywhere else on earth but here in this small office reeking of chlorine and sweat. She kissed Virginia back with all the longing she had held tight to for the last year. Plunging her hands into Virginia’s hair, she wrapped her fingers in the short, soft curls, pulling Virginia’s mouth against her.

Easing her hands from Virginia’s hair, Nicole broke their kiss. “I’ve wanted to kiss you since the time I first saw you. The letter…” Nicole dropped her voice and her head. Virginia brought her fingers up, tipping Nicole’s chin, her eyes hard and sharp.

“Ah, yes. The wine stains and cat hair were impressive.” Virginia nibbled Nicole’s’ lower lip. “It was sweet and hot and why I’m here.”

Sunday Rainbow Snippet

This weeks Rainbow Snippet it from One. Set in Italy this book was hella fun to write. Happy Sunday.

From One:

“I hope you don’t mind. I like to sit on the aisle and she was willing to trade for a window seat.”

Mind? Not sitting next to someone who radiated discomfort at my existence for seven hours? Sitting next to the hottest woman on the plane? Nope. “No, that’s great. She wasn’t thrilled to sit next to me.”

Lana placed her bag under the seat in front of her. The flight attendant came through the cabin asking if anyone wanted anything while the rest of the aircraft passengers boarded.

Lana ordered a sparkling water. “Would you like anything to drink?” Lana rested her fingertips on Mac’s arm, her light touch sending shockwaves through Mac.

“Water would be great.” Mac pulled her tray table into position.

Lana moved her hand. Missing the heat of her touch Mac wished she had not, wished she would have left her hand resting on her skin, wished in some alternate universe this was someone who would have her hands more places than her arm.

Rainbow Snippet: Dominque

Happy Sunday! Time for another Rainbow Snippet. This one is from my collection of short stories Dominque and Other Stories, published by NineStar Press. 

 From Dominique 

She strode back to the suite, knowing that if she didn’t knock now, she would never do it. She hammered on the door. She waited with her fingernails digging into her palms.

“Haven’t we been over this already, Rhonda?” Miranda said as she appeared in the opening.

“Not Rhonda.”

Miranda stood there in sweatpants and an old T-shirt, a quiet smile on her unpainted lips. Gina was lost. All the words she had rehearsed on her way over were gone.

“You came.” Miranda reached out and grabbed Gina’s hand, pulling her in and closing the door behind her.

“I don’t know why I did.”

“You do know.” Miranda slipped in close, cupping Gina’s cheek as she kissed her. Gina grabbed the front of Miranda’s shirt, pulling her hard against her, and shifted her other hand to the back of Miranda’s neck to wrap her fingers in her long hair. Five years of want spilled over into their kiss. Pulling Miranda’s head back, Gina kissed her neck, the small nibbles and sharp bites making Miranda groan as she pushed into Gina’s arms.

A Sunday Rainbow Snippet

She kept her head down and watched the woman from under her lashes. Late thirties early forties. Money. Class. The woman was solidly built and broad shouldered. Her dress was short-sleeved and displayed her well-muscled arms. Swimmer? Tennis player? Mac was a woman of few words but in this moment with this woman she had so many she wanted to say.
