I didn’t plan for it to be more than one novel but the women of Rowan House all had stories to tell. The last book is Elaine (Cook) happy ever after and today’s snip is from Double Six.<\/p>\n

Petra bit into a lavender lemon shortbread from her plate. She closed her eyes and chewed, a blissful expression on her face.<\/p>\n

Elaine laughed. \u201cRobin has many talents. That is her signature shortbread.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThat is sinful.\u201d Petra took a sip of her tea.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow do you know Lucia?\u201d Elaine bit into her favorite chocolate biscuit.<\/p>\n

Petra\u2019s eyes shuttered. \u201cPass.\u201d
\n\u201cWhy?\u201d
\n\u201cWhy do you want to know?\u201d Petra\u2019s expression was<\/p>\n

neutral, but her eyes were hard.
\n\u201cLucia is part of my family now. You\u2019re the first<\/p>\n

person she has ever mentioned in her life other than Madame. I\u2019m curious. I don\u2019t care if you were involved. And neither will Martha if you\u2019re concerned.\u201d<\/p>\n

Petra snorted. \u201cInvolved. That\u2019s one way to put it.\u201d She took another sip of her tea. \u201cI met Lucia in Japan. Madame sent me to her.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAs her what? Sub? Chaperone? Minder?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was studying shibari and was required to bring someone with her to be her canvas.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou went willingly? Or was it Madame\u2019s will?\u201d Elaine twisted her napkin in her hands.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to go. There was no place for me at the Onyx.\u201d Petra\u2019s tone revealed nothing, her face a mask.<\/p>\n

Elaine placed her plate on the table. \u201cI don\u2019t understand what kind of hold Madame had. How she was able to draw strong women such as yourself, Lucia, and my sister to her side, have them beg to be hers.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t you?\u201d Petra tilted her head to the side. \u201cHow many women have asked or begged to be yours?\u201d<\/p>\n

Elaine shifted in her seat. \u201cThat\u2019s different.\u201d \u201cHow so? Because they were subs?\u201d
\nElaine picked up the teapot. \u201cMore tea?\u201d \u201cNo, thank you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elaine could sense Petra\u2019s eyes on her. \u201cNot going to answer?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know what to say.\u201d Elaine sat back in her chair.<\/p>\n

\u201cProbably enough sharing for today.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGoddess, I hate that word. I don\u2019t like sharing. I don\u2019t want to know. I think we should all keep our secrets and fucked-up feelings inside where they belong.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo they can fester? Fuel your anger and pain?\u201d Petra snorted. \u201cAnd here I thought you were a sadist.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI am.\u201d Elaine studied the pattern on the carpet. \u201cAnd what good does it do to share? It\u2019s not like anyone really cares.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOr stays around? That\u2019s the rest of it, isn\u2019t it? You don\u2019t expect anyone to stay if you\u2019re honest.\u201d Petra\u2019s gaze burned. \u201cIf you keep everyone at arm\u2019s length, hold back, always stay in control, you don\u2019t have to worry, do you? And yet you were surprised when Roxy left.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elaine stood abruptly. \u201cYou don\u2019t know me. Three scenes, a few chats, and you think you know me. The audacity.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t say I did. I said I wanted to.\u201d Petra placed her plate on the cart before she pressed her napkin to her mouth.<\/p>\n
